To the ones who do all the shopping

Curiosa has never had a kitten of her very own before, and when she was growing up she just played with the kitties while her mom used to do all the hard work, like litter boxes and stuff. Curiosa has been doing a fairly good job taking care of my litter box, but sometimes the "fragrance" drifts into the rest of the apartment because it's very small, even though the pan is in the hallway. Curiosa is amazed at how much poop can come out of one little kitty; she doesn't even really want to think about how much poop can come out of two little kitties. Does it matter what kind of litter you use? And I guess it should be scooped everyday, and how often do you change the whole pan? Any special advice for anti-fumigation tricks?

Poop. It's all about poop.

Ullrik,

Tell Curiosa to try Best Friend Fresh & Easy silica crystals, that is what our male servant uses in our box and somehow the fragrance doesn't spread as much and he only has to clean once a day despite us being two very active (and hungry cats). That litter absorbs moisture very well and keep fresh for a long time.

You will have Curiosa properly trained in no time at all.
And if she needs advice for other things there's always the forums on katter.nu

greetings from Ozzie and Sot, proud owners of Johan

You should see what you get when there are five cats and one box.
We would definately be interested in doing some tail shots.

Do you have a covered litter box? Mine has a lid on and doesn't smell at all, unless I have just been in there and done something REALLY stinky, then you can smell it a bit. We use clumping (fullers earth type) litter and my mum and dad just scoop the clumps every night and don't change the whole box very often, about once every 6 weeks. And they put a bit of litter freshener powder in when they scoop the box. My box has a swing door for me to go in and out, I like the privacy of the lid! Hope this helps.

Look for litter with activated charcoal in it if possible. Really helps with keeping the smell down. I used to have a bag of that stuff right next to the litter box too.

well, we just use plain old clay litter with newspaper on the bottom of the box. we don't scoop unless one of us did something really horrenduous in there. the boxes get totally changed and washed twice a week. we have three boxes for the two of us and we never have a smell problem

We have a litterbox in the utility closet on the main level and one in the basement for us 3. The main one gets scooped about 3 times a week with more fresh litter added. If it get too fragrant, Mom dumps the whole thing and washes it in the sink.

Oh my god, every six weeks?? I change everything once a week and scoop every day, sometimes twice. And i feel guilty because it feels like i´m not doing it often enough. It´s true that the covered box makes it smell less, there´s a filter in mine that you need to change occasionally, but above all - it keeps the litter of the floor when the cat likes to dig around in it. Of course, i do believe my cat poops more than any other living creature.
